Understand the identifier

Unified Social Credit Code: Checker & Guide

The Unified Social Credit Code, often called USCC or USCI in English, is an organization identifier. Checking its format is a useful preparation step; matching it to an official record is a separate task.

Check a USCC

Checks the format and the GB 32100 check digit. It cannot confirm that a company exists or is active.

Find the code on the business license

Look for 统一社会信用代码 on the supplier’s business license. Copy all 18 characters from the source document. If a scan is unclear, ask for a readable copy instead of guessing a letter or number.

The identifier is covered by GB 32100-2015, the national coding standard for legal entities and other organizations. It is not a personal credit score or a rating of a supplier’s reliability.

Read the five parts

PositionPart
1Registration management department code
2Organization category code
3–8Administrative division code of the registration authority
9–17Organization identifier
18Check character

The State Taxation Administration’s explanation sets out these positions. The registration-authority segment is not evidence of a factory location or delivery address. Use the relevant documents to check those separately.

What a local code check can tell you

A local check can test the length, allowed characters, and the final check character against the coding rule. It can help catch a copying error before you search the official portal.

A passing checksum does not confirm that a code was issued, that a company is active, or that the supplier owns the identity. This tool does not contact a registry or return a company name. It also does not certify every department, category, or administrative code within the identifier.

Use the code to match the entity

After checking the text, search the code on the official GSXT portal. Compare the returned Chinese name with the business license and the entity named in your contract.

If the code fails the local check, compare it with the original document first. Do not silently replace characters until the check passes. If you have an older registration number or an identifier from another jurisdiction, confirm which type of identifier it is before using an 18-character check.

Follow the GSXT walkthrough for the next step.

FAQ

Common questions

Does a valid USCC mean the supplier is safe?

No. A code can pass a checksum without establishing an official registration match or a safe transaction. Check the official entity record and your contract and payment documents separately.

Are USCC and USCI different identifiers?

Both abbreviations are used in English for the Unified Social Credit Code or Identifier. Compare the Chinese label 统一社会信用代码 and the full code on the source document.

Can this tool look up a company from its code?

No. It checks the entered text locally. Company-record searches take place on the official portal, which you open separately.
